The normally tranquil setting of 7 Lakes Country Park in Crowle, near Scunthorpe, will be turned into a bustling hive of activity for the day on Saturday 7 July for the annual Rescue Day event.
The organising committee and team of volunteers, many of which are serving emergency services personnel, have been working for the last 12 months (since the day last year’s event finished if truth be known) to plan and prepare for this years spectacular day. Some of our team have been on site over this weekend (we enjoyed the sunshine and the lovely views, but we were working hard too, honest!).
If you’ve never been to, or even heard of Rescue Day before, well… all we can say is “where have you been!?!”. This hugely popular event started back in 2008 and showcases the work of emergency, rescue and voluntary services through a series of exciting live action displays involving fire, road, rail and water incidents. There’s chance to see and talk to the teams who help and protect us 24/7, look at the vehicles and equipment and even meet some of the 4 legged heroes (plus their handlers) too!
It’s not just blue lights and sirens though, there’s lots of informative and interactive stands that engage with young and old alike about things such as road and railway safety, the dangers of open water, home and fire safety tips, first aid and lots more.
The famous Red Devils Parachute Display Team will be performing a breath taking jump out of an aeroplane and parachuting into the main lake… yes that’s right, they’ll be landing in water! Our team of rescue boats will then pick them up, and then they’ll drop them off on the shore so you can talk to them and even ask for an autograph to go in your Rescue Day Programme (sneaky sales pitch – programmes will be available for just £1, look for them on sale near the entry gates) 50% from all programme sales goes to “Emma’s Wish”…
This year we along with HFR Solutions and Humberside Fire & Rescue Service are supporting a special charity called “Emma’s Wish”. Emma is a little girl from Hull, and her dad is a serving fire fighter in Humberside. Emma is two years old and suffers from cerebral palsy and needs an operation costing £40,000 to help her to be able to walk, it’s not available on the NHS, so Emma’s parents, along with lots of fantastic supporters and the guys and girls from HFR Solutions & Humberside Fire are doing events to help raise this money for her.
At Rescue Day they’ll be a ladder climb challenge in the North arena to raise money and awareness for “Emma’s Wish”.
Please come along and support this great cause and see a very special guest who is also kindly supporting the efforts… Lee Ridley AKA Lost Voice Guy, the brilliantly funny winner of Britain’s Got Talent 2018 will be there and he’ll be performing at 12:00 and will be available for autographs at 12:30, 13:30 and 14:30 – in the North arena area.
They’ll be lots more for you and the family to see and do including boat rides on the lake, pony rides, go carts, fairground, food and drink (a bar for the grown ups). The sun is on order, so come along, enjoy the atmosphere, see the live displays, sit next to the lake and enjoy… see you on Saturday 7 July! Don’t miss it!
